Pariahs & Supernatural Abilities

Hundreds of years ago people began to manifest supernatural abilities. These people were able to manipulate different forces with their minds and strength of will, such as heat, cold, electricity, etc… These people were persecuted heavily for their abilities and thus took on the identity of “pariah.” However, these pariah abilities took a mental toll on the user. The more powerful a pariah became the more he/she lost his/her grip on reality and sanity.

In-game anyone can become a pariah by purchasing a skill from the Pariah paths. When a Pariah skill is purchased that character becomes locked to that Pariah path, and may not purchase skills from any other Pariah path (although he/she may purchase non-Pariah skills as normal). Pariah powers are fueled by PRE.

Pariahs are able to wield great power, but there is a downside to their psychic abilities. Once a character has manifested a Pariah ability (once he/she has purchased from any of the Pariah paths) all END and FOC skills require double the amount of Ability Points to use. This represents the difficulty required in marshaling the psychic power that Pariahs can summon.

Example 1:

Lauren has purchased Flame Blast under Pyrokinesis 1. She can no longer purchase from any other Pariah path except Pyrokinesis.

She wishes to use the skill Disarm, which she already knows. Disarm is normally 1 END for her, but since Lauren learned from one of the Pariah lines, Disarm permanently becomes 2 END for her to use.

The forces that grant pariahs their abilities inevitably drive them toward insanity. All players with pariah abilities permanently take 1 stress when they purchase their first rank 2 skill and their first rank 4 skill.
